Spray tanning is a surface reaction. DHA develops color by reacting with amino acids in the keratin-rich outermost layer of the skin, known as the stratum corneum. For that reaction to occur evenly, the skin surface must be clean, balanced, and free of residue.
At the time of service, the skin may still carry an invisible surface film from deodorant,makeup, body care products, sweat salts, sunscreen, or daily skincare products. These residues act as barriers between the tanning solution and the skin surface, increasing the risk of beading, uneven adherence, and inconsistent development.

For optimal surface preparation, apply using a dedicated prep spray gun or continuous fine-mist bottle to ensure uniform coverage before tanning.

Use approximately 0.5 oz for a full-body service. Increase slightly when prepping clients with heavier sweat, deodorant, or product buildup.

Mist evenly over the body prior to spray tanning. Focus on high-residue areas such as underarms, face, neck, elbows, knees, and feet.
If sweat, deodorant, makeup, or lotion is present, wipe lightly with a clean towel to physically remove buildup.

Do I need to wipe the product off?

Yes. If sweat, oils, deodorant, or makeup are present, wiping physically removes residue. If the skin is already clean and the goal is only pH balance, drying without wiping is acceptable—but wiping ensures consistency.

How does it remove residue without surfactants?

Witch Hazel and floral water help dissolve sweat and deodorant, while wiping removes oils and buildup. It cleans by lifting + wiping, not emulsifying.

How long should I wait before tanning?

What equipment can I use?
